Lac Chigoubiche in the
Ashuapmushuan Preserve

"We arrived!"  We had spent the day before at LL Bean and the night in a hotel in St. Georges outside Quebec City before traveling to the Lac St. Jean area and learning that there would be "no room at the inn."  We had hoped to camp on the lake but as it turned out--the week we were there coincided with one of two weeks that the whole province takes vacation!  We drove around until deciding to drive further north to the Ashuapmushuan Preserve.  Little did we know what a jewel it would be!

Camped here at Lac Chigoubiche in the Ashuapmushuan Preserve for three nights.  A very shallow lake, girls and Sue walk far out onto the lake and it never gets over their heads.

A vast territory that the Montagnais called Ashuapmushuan, "the place where moose are seen", the natural setting of the wildlife reserve is made up of more than 1,200 lakes spread out over an alternation of rolling hills and lowlands.

It was a gorgeous location with very few people.  We were however, greatly outnumbered by the black flies!
