Blueberries & Moose

A Festival of Maine Children's Literature

On 10 May 2003, my friend, Joy and I went into Portland with my Mom to go to a book fair where we can meet authors and illustrators from Maine.  It is called Blueberries & Moose.  We were really exited to go together into the city!

The first thing we did was do the scavenger hunt challenge to win some blueberry-flavored Mad Gab's Lip Balm!

It was really exciting to meet Phillip Hoose.  He wrote one of my favorite books, We Were There, Too!  The book is a collection of first-person accounts of children who lived through historic events.  It is so awesome!

We met a new author today, Fred Lipp.  He wrote a book about a girl from Cambodia called The Caged Birds of Phnom Penh.  My mom had read the book so she knew it was a good one!

We bought a copy of Fred Lipp's book,  The Caged Birds of Phnom Penh and he was kind enough to sign it for me!

Later in the day, Frederick Lipp read The Caged Birds of Phnom Penh to us and some of the children at the festival.  It is a really neat story.

Here I am acting out when the girl lets the bird fly away….hoping the bird will keep flying so that her wish will come true!  Can you see Joy and me with our purple balloons?

We had a great time together in Portland!
