Schooner Bahgeera
A Tall Ship out of Casco Bay
Portland, Maine

On 3 August 2003, Dad, Mom and I went sailing on a Maine schooner named Bagheera.  It is 72 feet long and was built in 1924 for a Newport, RI millionaire.  It is a beautiful boat!

I had a lot of fun sailing around the bay past lighthouses, islands and interesting rock formations -- one of which reminded me of the "Old Man in the Mountain" that recently fell down in New Hampshire.  We even saw a seal swimming around on our way back to the dock!

The trip was sponsored by the Maine Historical Society of which we are members.  I love to take tours of the Longfellow House.  Since I am home schooled, I am going to study Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and then apply to be a docent when I am older.

Bagheera's berth was interesting and made it easy to imagine actually living on a ship.  It had elegant and rich furnishings and the office for the captain was tiny but useful.  It reminded me of Harry Potter's bedroom under the stairs!
